Burglaries During Darker Nights – Help Keep Your Home Safe
As we approach the darker nights and daylight hours become shorter, burglars can take advantage of the increased darkness to target homes.
Here are a few simple steps to help protect your property:
- Ensure all doors and windows are locked, even when you are at home. - Use timer switches on lights to make your property appear occupied. - Keep keys, wallets, and valuable items out of sight and away from doors and windows. - Consider installing CCTV/Video Doorbells, and security lighting where possible. -Trim hedges and shrubs that could provide cover for offenders. -Look out for your neighbours and report any suspicious activity.
Signs to watch out for may include unfamiliar people hanging around residential streets, individuals looking into properties, or vehicles repeatedly driving around an area without obvious reason. If you witness suspicious activity, please report it. In an emergency, or if a crime is in progress, always call 999. Non-emergency information can be reported via 101 or through our online reporting channels.
